The Edward Wrangham Collection of Japanese Art Part I

9 November 2010

London: Bonhams, 2010.

Wrangham was born into a wealthy English landowning family. His uncle, William Winkworth, and grandfather Stephen Winkworth, were both experts in Oriental arts, the latter among the co-founders of the Oriental Ceramic Society.

Against this backdrop, he was to amass one of the great collections of Japanese material, especially strong in inro, lacquerware, and netsuke.

4to (27cm). Pictorial laminated boards. pp. 169. 376 lots, divided between Japanese swords and sword fittings; netsuke; inro, and lacquer works of art.

Illustrated throughout in full colour.

Some minor handling, but a very smart copy.
