Add a touch of 1920s elegance to your collection with this exquisite, hand-painted Noritake handled plate. Often referred to as a cake tray or sandwich plate, this piece features a serene, beautifully detailed pastoral landscape. A traditional windmill sits on the edge of tranquil waters, framed by trees and a soft, gradient sky. The gracefully scalloped rim is accented with radiant, intact gold trim along the two integrated handles.
A Piece of History:
This plate carries the iconic red "M in Wreath" backstamp, representing the Morimura brothers who founded the company that would officially become Noritake. Because the stamp explicitly reads "Made in Japan," this piece can be accurately dated between 1921 and 1941. It is a prime, surviving example of the high-quality Japanese porcelain crafted for Western export during the Art Deco era.
Condition:
Exceptional antique condition. The porcelain is structurally sound with absolutely no chips, cracks, or crazing. Remarkably, the delicate gold trim on the handles shows no signs of rubbing or wear from use. When held up to a strong light, a microscopic factory kiln speck is visible in the glaze. Additionally, there is a tiny, stray drop of gold near the bottom center rim—a charming "artist's fingerprint" left behind by the original decorator's brush that highlights the authentic, hand-painted nature of the piece.
