**Note** The close-ups of the etching have been severely altered in post to make the lettering more visible in the pictures.  The lettering itself has not been changed in any way - just contrast / brightness / etc was drastically changed. Doing this makes the blade look very rusty - please note the other untouched pics for best representation.
Item Description
THE PIECE:
Up for sale is an authentic Geo. H. Bishop & Co. "Handy Saw" (Household Use model), manufactured in Lawrenceburg, Indiana (circa 1899–1920). This is a specialized 12-inch double-sided utility saw, featuring a 3-1/4" tall blade and the original steel/iron wing nut and threaded rod assembly.
CONDITION & PRESERVATION:
This saw has been carefully preserved using collector-approved "mechanical" cleaning methods to ensure the historical markings remain intact:
  • The Blade: Cleaned using a new razor blade at a shallow angle to lift surface rust without scouring the metal. Areas away from the etching were lightly polished with #0000 steel wool and WD-40. There is a small indention in the blade.
  • The Patina: The blade retains a beautiful, dark authentic patina consistent with 100+ years of age.
  • The Etching: Most of the original "Lawrenceburg" and "Household Use" lettering remains visible and legible.
  • The Teeth: All teeth are present; one tooth is partially broken/chipped (see photos).
  • The Handle: Classic wheat-pattern carving on one side and lettering on the reverse. The wood has been cleaned with mineral spirits and nourished with Boiled Linseed Oil. It is solid with NO cracks.
  • Protection: Both the steel and wood have been sealed with Minwax Paste Finishing Wax to prevent future corrosion.
SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Maker: Geo. H. Bishop & Co.
  • Blade Length: 12"
  • Blade Height: 3-1/4"
  • Hardware: Original steel/iron wing nut & pivot screw.
This is a fantastic "survivor" piece for a tool collector or an enthusiast of Indiana industrial history. Please see high-resolution photos for the exact cosmetic condition.
