A vintage stoneware Stilton cheese jar produced for Fortnum & Mason Ltd of Piccadilly, London.

The jar features a printed advertising mark reading “Fortnum & Mason Ltd – Finest English Stilton Cheese” beneath the royal appointment crest for Queen Elizabeth II, identifying the company as grocers and provision merchants to the royal household.

Made in glazed stoneware with a traditional cream body and brown glazed rim, these jars were originally sold filled with Stilton cheese and were commonly reused in kitchens for storage once emptied.

The base carries the impressed mark “Royal Doulton – Made in England”, confirming manufacture by the well-known Staffordshire pottery firm.

Fortnum & Mason branded containers such as this are now collected as examples of vintage advertising kitchenware and British retail history.
