For your consideration is an antique, circa 1870, set of DRAWING CARDS FOR LITTLE CHILDREN: THE LITTLE ARTIST'S PORTFOLIO No. 5 by G. T. JAMES of New York City.  The Huntington Digital Library attributes the cards to J. Monroque of Paris, France.  This would appear to be correct as the titles of the cards are in French.  The cards are printed on a single side and are un-numbered.  There are 24 cards and 12 blank cards.  They are contained in a cloth and paper packet.  Worldcat dates the set as 1856.  The American Antiquarian Society dates it as circa 1860.  Included is a card advertising other sets of drawing cards on one side and chromolithographs on the other.

The cards measure 3-1/2 inches by 5 inches.  The advertisement measures 3-3/8th inches by 4-7/8th inches.  The packet measures   4 inches by 5-1/4 inches by 3/8ths of an inch.

CONDITION:  The set is complete with 24 drawing cards and 12 blank cards.  Also included is a two-sided advertising sheet and the original packet.  The cards and advertisement are in very good condition, gently rubbed and lightly soiled.  The packet is in good condition, rubbed, soiled and stained with some tears.  PLEASE MOUSE OVER THE PHOTOGRAPHS FOR CONDITION DETAILS.
