Antique late 19th-century hinged panel belt featuring decorative brass panels with engraved scenic and symbolic designs. The belt includes multiple panels depicting architectural scenes with mosque domes and minarets, floral motifs, and a crescent and star symbol associated with the Ottoman Empire.
These types of belts were popular during the Victorian era and were often sold as travel souvenirs in Constantinople (modern Istanbul) and other parts of the Ottoman Empire.
The belt is constructed from cast brass panels with a worn gilt finish and connected with hinged links. It fastens with a hook-style clasp.
Small loops beneath several panels appear to have originally supported decorative chains or charms, which are no longer present.
Condition:
Good antique condition with expected wear from age. The gilt finish is worn in places and there is natural patina and oxidation to the brass. Hinges move freely and the clasp is intact.
Please review photos carefully for details.
A unique late Victorian decorative belt and an interesting example of Ottoman tourist souvenir jewelry.
