Special edition luxury merino jersey
The Peace Race Jersey is a special edition piece from Rapha that commemorates one of the greatest sporting events of the 20th century. Little known by fans of cycling today, the Peace Race was born out of an effort to reunite the war-torn countries behind the Iron Curtain. A two-week-long amateur event that first ran in 1948, the Course de la Paix broadcasted the notion that sporting values could promote unity on a continent torn apart by hate, and national teams from around the world were invited to compete on a route through the Eastern Bloc states of Czechoslovakia, East Germany and Poland. Bike racing would bring back together WWII’s winners and losers, in front of crowds of millions, all as part of the reconstruction of a continent. Notwithstanding the political grandstanding that took place around the race, its competitors were genuine couriers of peace, and Rapha pays tribute to them.
The Peace Race Jersey takes its cue from the jerseys awarded to the race’s lead riders. It comes with the same button-on removable arm warmers provided to help the riders stay warm in the spring weather of eastern Europe. Made of a luxury Sportwool™ merino, the jersey has elegant finishing details with wide-ribbed cuffs and hem, and a high, button-up collar for adjustable comfort. Graphics and insignia inspired by the race are also embroidered onto the jersey.
