Mid-century Native American souvenir dolls were produced in large quantities for the American tourist trade from the 1940s through the 1970s ā sold at roadside attractions, trading posts, national parks, and gift shops throughout the American West and Southwest. These dolls featured hard plastic or celluloid faces with sleep eyes ā a popular doll mechanism of the era ā dressed in hand-stitched suede or felt costumes with fringe, braid trim, and feather accents. Today they are collected as mid-century Americana, vintage toy collectibles, and examples of American tourist trade folk art.
