Excellent attention to detail, this painting has brought forth a superb rendering of the armed American merchant marine freighter U.S.S. Kentucky in wartime grey sailing the China Sea, during the famous & very ferocious 1900 typhoon. The region recorded 23 tropical cyclones in the western Pacific Ocean, with winds over 118 km/h wiping out many of the shipping vessels, but not the USS Kentucky. This painting reveals the strength of American battleships. It was commissioned for service in 1896, traveling in East Asia, the Atlantic & Gulf areas. Her service ended in 1923, replaced with US Navy aircraft carriers during WWII. The artist signed his work as Mac Callum. It's a very dramatic historic piece showing the pounding waves against the hull & surviving the many storms in 1900. This makes a handsome addition to any decor.
