Handcrafted Alaska Native spirit mask titled "Spirit Dancer," dated 2001 and signed by the artist on the verso. This is a named, signed work — not a generic decorative piece.
The mask is carved from a single piece of wood in a traditional oval/leaf form, approximately 10" tall. The front features a carved three-dimensional spirit face set within a hand-painted red surround with white radiating marks, and a green painted upper panel with white dot motifs. Natural feathers are attached through the wood body via sinew cord, fanning outward in a traditional style. A natural fiber hanging loop is attached at the top.
The style and construction are consistent with Yupik, or related Alaska Native / Canadian Inuit traditions of spirit mask carving. The artist's signature on the back is handwritten but partially illegible — buyers are welcome to examine the photos closely and draw their own conclusions.
Dimensions: Approximately 10" tall (wood body), feathers extend the overall length further Date: 2001 (inscribed on back) Condition: Good. Some natural aging to the wood and feathers consistent with age.
