This antique 19th century postal scale manufactured by E&T Fairbanks of Vermont features a decorative hand painted cast iron base. Has a brass weighing platform and a sliding counterweight. The brass beam is notched and numbered up to 9 1/2 ounces. Base is marked "E.&T. FAIRBANKS & CO. V.T". Brass arm is stamped "FAIRBANKS" on one side. Other side of arm is stamped "PATENTED" and a faint date mark of "NOV", which would be their 1859 patent date.

Black paint on base has minor chipping. Hand painted details have minor wear & fading. Patina and surface marks on the brass components. Green polish residue in details on the brass.
