Replacing the important but not tremendously popular Silver Dawn in 1955 was the Silver Cloud, offering body-on-frame construction, permitting both the typical Pressed Steel Company bodies but also alternate configurations. In its sophomore year, it introduced power steering and air conditioning to the Rolls-Royce line for the first time. It was successful but by 1959 Rolls-Royce sought to further separate itself from the competition and introduced a new 6.2L V8 to replace the old 4.9L Inline 6. This car became the Silver Cloud II and was equally successful over its three-year run, where power steering became standard and power windows found their way onto the option list. But the ultimate Silver Cloud was released in 1963; featuring a 220 lb. lighter body with new quad headlights, upgraded 2" SU carburetors replacing the previous 1¾" units, and 9:1 compression. The Silver Cloud III became one of the best high speed luxury saloons of the 1960's. Seeing as the newest Silver Cloud is now over 50 years old possessing more of earth's natural resources than most modern luxury sedans, along with arguably much more class, they should be the staple in any Rolls-Royce collection for its combination of elegant styling with modern drivability.

We are pleased to offer this 1965 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III finished in factory ordered Shell Grey and Burgundy two-tone combination over Beige Leather interior, Fawn headliner and Cumberland Stone carpets! Fitted with its original, number matching 6.2L V8 engine with Hydramatic automatic transmission and 3.50:1 rear axle, it continues to start, run, and drive simply wonderfully! Optioned from the factory with Rolls Royce Electric Windows, Dunlop white-sided tubeless tyres (now Cooper 4-ply poly L78-15), plain Sundyn window glass, AM/FM/8-track player with electric aerial(antenna), mirror to drivers vent frame, lambskin rugs in Cumberland Stone, front badge bar, and initials to rear doors reading D.J.R. in capitals.

It was originally ordered by Mr. D.J. Rosenheim, a plastics manufacturer based in New York, on May 8th 1964, then traded hands just a handful of times over the past 50 years. It made its way to Atlanta by 1975, out to the plains of Oklahoma, then back to Hamden, Connecticut from 2002. The exterior paint has been refinished, while the chrome and interior upholstery remain largely original. Once part of the St. Louis Car Museum collection in 2017, the upper door wood trim was professionally refinished that August, and the leathers have been lightly re-dyed to restore their original color. It was sold with just 63,226 miles showing on the odometer to a Michigan collector, before selling from his estate to a New York enthusiast most recently. It is safe to say it has been pampered and driven respectfully over the past 9 years. Today, the odometer reads just 73,586 miles. Overall, we would rate the car's appearance as very good, preserving a striking presentation both inside and out.

The factory SU carburetors were both rebuilt this January 2026 with new linkage bushings, along with new spark plugs/plug wires, distributor cap & rotor, a full air conditioning service to ensure it is operable condition, new front brake shoes with new drums, coolant system flush, new engine oil & filter, new front sway bar bushings, steering box bushings, idler arm bushings, and fresh valve cover gaskets.

It retains its small tool set (missing two items), complete large tool set with flashlight, spare tire, all factory Triplex XXX glass, Marston Excelsior radiator, original carburetors, Lucas components, Schoellkopf/Inskip card & chassis/build sheet copies provided courtesy of the Rolls Royce Foundation.
