For your consideration is the antique, 1900, advertising game of "HOUSEKEEPING," made by the ACME WHITE LEAD AND COLOR WORKS of Detroit, Michigan, Makers of Neal's Enamels. The game is complete with an Instructions card and ten sets of five cards, each set corresponding to article in a room of a house, as follows:CHAMBER
- CHAMBER: bed, chiffonier, commode, dresser, dressing table
- DINING ROOM: china closet, dining room chair, dining room table, ice water stand, sideboard
- HALL: hall clock, hall settee, hall stand, hall tree, umbrella stand
- KITCHEN: coffee mill, gasoline stove, kitchen chair, kitchen table, refrigerator
- LAUNDRY: clothes rack, clothes wringer, ironing board, wash tub bench, washing machine
- LIBRARY: book case, couch, desk, dictionary stand, revolving book shelves
- MUSIC ROOM: music cabinet, music counter, music rack, music stand, piano bench
- PARLOR: parlor chair, parlor rocker, parlor settee, parlor table, tabourette
- SEWING ROOM: embroidering frame, sewing basket, sewing machine, sewing room rocker, sewing table
- SITTING ROOM: foot stool, Morris chair, picture, table, wicker rocker
The back of each card (including instructions) has an Art Nouveau design with a depiction of two cans of Neal's Enamels Snow White paint. The cards measure 2-1/4 inches by 3-1/4 inches. The box measures 2-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches by 5/8ths of an inch.
The Association of Games and Puzzles International lists Acme White Lead and Color Works (publisher) as AGPI #P-74. The AGPI Game Catalog dates the game as 1900.
CONDITION: The game is complete with 50 cards (ten sets of five cards each), an Instructions card, and three advertising cards, all in the original box. The Instructions card is in very good condition, age-toned but fully legible. The deck of playing cards is in good condition: gently rubbed and lightly soiled. Two of the advertising cards are in very good condition; the other (Neal's Enamels) has a heavy crease near the top and another near the bottom (see close-ups).
