This is a unique bag and unlike any bag you have ever had. The craftswoman who made this product used a completed shyrdak felt rug and crafted it into this bag.
The first stage of felt wool starts with raw wool sheared from local sheep herds. The wool is than washed , combed and often dyed by hand (fruits and plants) to produce these organic pieces. Their methods date back 1000's of years. Once dyed free form patterns are created of shyrdaks. The shyrdaks require many hours of cutting and sewing and can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months to complete. The design on this bag is a Rams horn. It is a common design in the Kyrgyz tradition and represents - fertility, power and masculinity. Good as a laptop bag.
This bag is made by one of the member's of a Women's handicraft NGO in Kyrgyzstan. By purchasing this bag you are not only getting a product of the highest quality using traditional skills, but you help maintain the local felt making tradition and income generation for Women. We also support fair trade.
