A huge hand-raised solid silver federal style coffee pot by Christian Wiltberger, Philadelphia c.1790.

Christian Wiltberger (1766-1851) was a Philadelphian silversmith working from 1790-1819.

Of gigantic proportions it is almost identical to the one at Hope College Museum.

Apart from Hope College Wiltberger's silver is preserved at several major American museum institutions reflecting his status as a respected American silversmith.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery and the Winterthur Museum, to name the more important collections.

It features rows of beadwork on the body as well as along the spout.The carved wood handle sports leaf decoration matching the applied decoration on the spout.

Faultless condition.

The crackling at the base of the handle is due to the heat from the body when full of hot coffee and is just in the laquered finish.

There are no cracks in the wood.

No monogram.

Centerpoint to the base of the body.

Clearly marked along the square foot, pictured.
