1954 MG TF 1250.
I’m going to give this one more try. Following the last attempt at a 10 day, 99p start, no reserve auction, I’m hoping for a winning bidder that turns up!
Right hand drive, UK supplied car. Chrome wire wheels.
In the same family for 57 years.
Extensively restored in the 1990's and virtually unused since.
Fresh from long term storage, it is now running and driving in the yard, but is sold as a project for recommissioning, I just don't have the time to do it at present.
The car has an interesting history, it was the subject of an article in Thoroughbred and Classic Cars magazine in 1974, being the first of its type to be Ziebart rust treated, there is a photo of the article in the pictures, it was at the time obviously a darker colour, but the registration number is right.
The article states that Mr Carol Chabert, an American from New Orleans bought the car when he settled in Lowestoft in 1968, the car was in the ownership of the Chabert family until I bought it last year, as the paperwork with the car shows.
The car was extensively restored in the 1990's and has been little used since (the mileometer only reads 38 miles, I think it may have been reset when the car was restored!) the underside is amazingly clean and tidy, sporting a stainless exhaust with the stickers still on, telescopic shock conversion front and rear, everything has obviously been take apart, cleaned and painted and carefully reassembled with new bolts, bushes, etc.
The wood framing looks absolutely solid.
I have put fresh fuel and a new fuel pump and battery on the car, and it started easily with very good oil pressure and runs very sweetly.
The engine has some alloy dress up parts including the rocker cover and side plate.
It drives in the yard on the hand brake, but the brakes will need going through, I suspect a set of wheel cylinders and hoses would be the best bet.
The seats have been recovered in leather and are in good order, could do with a dose of hide food to soften them, the carpets have a bit of moth damage but look quite reasonable.
The hood and side screens were replaced in 1998 (receipt on file) but have faded a bit, you can get recolouring kits that would smarten them up again.
The chromework is quite presentable, there is some spotting on the dash panel and the fuel tank sides, but most of it will polish up well. There are some spots on the wheels , but again with time, polish and elbow grease they can be made to sparkle again!
The tyres are quite old and should be replaced before it goes on the road.
The paintwork has micro blistering on most of the panels and a couple of cracks on the drivers front wing, its ok if you just want to blast about, but if you want a show car you will want to do some paintwork!
The paperwork has the old style V5, buff logbook, various correspondence regarding restoration work and some invoices.
The car is for sale as a 99p start, no reserve auction lasting for 10 days, so please ask questions, even better, come and have a look, then have a bid, it will run to the end.
