Up for auction is this rare and hard to find Kwik-lite Two-way Flashlight Lantern. This sturdy metal lantern is a relic from a bygone era and has been part of my lantern collection display for many years. My research indicates this lantern is from the 1930s or 1940s. I bought it about thirty years ago and never put batteries in in it or tested the bulbs. It is all original and I do not know if it would illuminate if batteries were inserted. I just know it is a great piece of memorabilia. Kwik-lite flashlight lanterns lsuchcas these were often given as advertising gifts to customers as is reflected by this particular lantern. On the back is imprinted the name of a newspaper, namely the Advocate Hamilton in Hamilton, Missouri. This newspaper published from 1919 until 1983. likely dating back to the early to mid-20th century.
Along with the lantern comes the original instruction sheet for its use. The instructions describe the lantern as having a broad beam on top and a long distance focusing light in front. I have included several pics of the instruction sheet for your review. The instruction sheet is folded up and sits safely inside the battery compartment.
I was advised by an expert of these Kwiklite lanterns that they originally had a red plastic lens over the bulb on the top.
This lantern evokes a sense of adventure and nostalgia, perfect for collectors of vintage lighting or those who appreciate the rustic appeal of industrial decor. As was common during the 1930's common household items were used as advertising opportunities and this is no different.
