I offer a single pair of hand carved Lilac Hammers for your Hammered dulcimer. These hammers are carved from Lilac wood pruned from 30-year-old bushes in my yard.
When green, Lilac wood is very easy to cut and shape, but when dry it is very hard and strong. Lilac hammers have become the most sought-after hammers in my inventory because they bounce so well and they create a very distinct sound. One experienced musician reported that they 'speak their own language'.
As the pics show, both hammers are beautifully colored with the red/brown Heartwood. The light, pithy heart of the stem goes pretty much straight through both hammers from the back of their heels to their tips.
These hammers were carved to be short and stout to make a bold, dominant sound. Great for practice, for jamming and perhaps for teaching.
These are just a tiny bit over 7 5/8" long and weigh 1.0 ounces as a pair. That is a little heavier than other hammers of that length. They are also much more rugged than most hammers I carve.
They will be shipped without leather strips glued on but I always include a packet of leathers of various thicknesses to glue on later if needed. Be sure to sand off the finish first!
Choosing and paying the ' buy now' price will get free shipping. And buyers of multiple hammers will pay a single shipping cost.
Thanks for reading. I do make great hammers, just check out as many of my feedbacks over the years as you can and you will agree.
Happy hammering!
W.
