🖋️ Antique Wyeth Glass Inkwell – Sun-Colored Amethyst – c.1890–1920
Authentic antique Wyeth glass inkwell, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. This piece was originally manufactured as clear glass and has naturally aged to a soft amethyst / lavender hue due to manganese content and decades of light exposure—a desirable and collectible characteristic known as sun-colored amethyst.
The base is embossed “WYETH YET”. This marking is a factory mold mark, consistent with early industrial glass production for Wyeth’s pharmaceutical and office use. It is not a later addition or personalization.
The inkwell features a cylindrical body with a gently flared lip and a thick base for stability. The original lid is no longer present, which is common for utilitarian inkwells that saw real daily use.
Condition reflects its age and history, showing surface wear, light scratches, interior haze, and remnants consistent with old ink. No cracks or repairs observed.
A genuine antique desk accessory with strong appeal for collectors of:
antique writing tools
apothecary and medical history
Victorian / early 20th-century decor
gothic or academic office aesthetics
