Vintage Shimano MTB hub set from 1991 Specialized Rock Hopper.

This high end vintage hub set is good for road or mountain bike applications. Shimano released the Exage line in 1987 as a high end option for casual sports cyclists. They envisioned this for sports riders who weren't at the pro level but who wanted high end performance.

This hub set came off a 1991 Specialized Hard Rock with very minimal usage. I obtained the bike from the original owner who had it in the garage all its life.

The hub axles have been completely taken apart and rebuilt with fresh grease. They are ready to go. They would be great for any vintage road or mountain bike build.

The set comes with the original 7-speed HG cassette.

Advanced Components Series Leading Casual Sports

As its name suggested, EXAGE, coined from “excellent,” “exceed” and “age,” was a casual components series with excellent quality and advanced functionality. EXAGE was released as a series that could be used for various scenes and lifestyles at the time when diversified needs for bicycles began to arise as cycling was regarded a sport that anyone could enjoy easily. Under the concept of casual sports, Shimano offered a product lineup comprised of three series (road, mountain and fitness). Later, as the ways users enjoyed cycling became diversified, Shimano subdivided the lineup to expand it in order to fit bicycles to the scenes that users liked. Shimano communicated the appeal of sports bikes to many more people with EXAGE, which offered advanced functions and casual designs at prices where people could enjoy riding sports bikes easily.
