David Owen Williams- cut signature, pitcher, Boston (Americans) Red Sox, 1902. Williams pitched one year for the Boston (Americans) Red Sox. He played minor league and independent ball for Philadelphia/Harrisburg Ponies in the Atlantic League in 1900. In 1901 he played for the Albany Senators in the New York State League as well as June to July of the 1902 season before he was called up for his debut, July 2 with Boston. He lasted for a month then was sent home. He then pitched for the American Association team, Columbus, and then Altoona in the Tri-State League until 1906. In 1907 he was at Sioux City in The Western League and then to Duluth in 1908. After baseball, he joined Company M of the 3rd Minnesota a State Militia, eventually becoming a captain in the 151st Field Artillery Battery. In April of 1918 he caught pneumonia  and died on April 25th, 1918. This is a very rare signature and was part of the 1902 Albany Senators ledger that consisted of manager Thomas O'Brien. Lore has it that Dave Williams in 1898 taught a young Christy Mathewson, the fade away pitch or screwball it as was known later. Please ask any questions before buying/ bidding or offering. For the past thirty years, I have been actively collecting and researching signatures I have found in books, documents and ledgers from 1878-1910. This includes notables from the Civil War, the Spanish American War, authors, artists, politicians, presidents, inventors and more. Before this I have been collecting since the mid 1970's and my father since the late 1930's. Through my research I can verify the signatures I am listing. However, if you feel uneasy about the signature please do not buy it. Thank you.
