This Alebrije, a Mexican folk sculpture that represents spirit guides, has been carved and painted by an Oaxacan folk artist.

The art form originated in the 1930s in Mexico City by artist Pedro Linares and is carved in Copal wood. It  depicts the vivid and fantastic hallucinations that Mr. Linares experienced during an illness.

This bright turquoise “Lucky Elephant” Alebrije is particularly colorful and breathtaking. It measures 2-1/2” tall by 2” long.

Look at the 4 other Alebrijes I have listed by the same artist. They are equally beautiful.

I wrap carefully.
