Description: This beautiful linen-era postcard depicts the bustling terminal interior of the Washington National Airport shortly after its 1941 opening. The artwork features the iconic curved "American Airlines" ticket counters, mid-century modern architecture, and travelers in classic 1940s attire, including a prominent gentleman in a fedora.

Historical Context
Washington National Airport (now Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport) was a marvel of civil engineering when it opened in 1941. Designed by architect Howard Lovewell Cheney, the terminal was intended to reflect the "Machine Age" while maintaining the dignity of the Capital. At the time of this card's printing, it was celebrated as one of the largest and most modern civil landing fields in the world, covering 450 acres.

Artist & Publisher Information
Publisher: This is a "Capsco Product" by the Capitol Souvenir Company, a prominent D.C.-based publisher known for documenting the transformation of the Capital during the mid-20th century.

The Linen Era: This card is a prime example of the "Linen" postcard style, characterized by a high rag content in the paper which gave it a fabric-like texture and allowed for the saturated, vibrant dyes seen here.
