Manuscript vellum DS, signed “B. Franklin,” one page, 16 x 13.5, June 11, 1787. As president of Pennsylvania's Supreme Executive Council, Franklin issues a land grant. Signed prominently on the left side by Benjamin Franklin and countersigned below by James Trimble as secretary. The upper left retains the original paper state seal of Pennsylvania. In fine condition, with some light staining and soiling. Franklin issued this document as president of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, a position analogous to the modern position of governor. 
In 1787, Benjamin Franklin, as President of Pennsylvania's Supreme Executive Council (like a governor), signed numerous land grants, primarily to Revolutionary War soldiers as payment for their service, awarding them tracts of land in western Pennsylvania, often described with landmarks and sizes (e.g., 200 acres). These historical documents, signed "B. Franklin," are distinctive for their official seals, vellum material, and details of land parcels.
