revised edition of these two Headley volumes. The first volume consists of a
series of travel letters to various Italian locations, relating to his visit to
the peninsula in 1842-'43: Genoa, Livorno, Civitavecchia, Naples, Pompeii,
Paestum, Salerno, Castellamare, Capua, Rome, Tivoli, Terni, Perugia, Florence,
Pisa, Milan, Pavia, Alessandria, etc. The second work consists of a picturesque
description of numerous places in the Alps (especially Swiss) or next course of
the Rhine river: the Simplon, the Col di Balme, the Chamonix valley, Chillon,
Friborg, Interlachen, the Righi, Basel, Strasbourg, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden,
Cologne, etc. The Tyler (Walton, New York, 1813-Newburgh, New York, 1897),
ecclesiastical, newspaper editor, historian (wrote monographs on Cromwell,
Washington, Napoleon), polygraph and politician, served as New State Secretary
of State York from 1856 to 1857. Not in Perret.
