This print is titled “ 1ere Vue De La Ville De Fribourg” which translates to the 1st view of the City of Fribourg.

It indicates the view from under the exterior gate facing the Sarine Bridge.

It is a historical depiction of the Swiss City of Fribourg which is on the Sarine river.

This print was popular in the 18th and 19thC.

This is a misinterpretation and refers to Dom Perignon champagne and its connection to King Louis XIV

DOM Pierre Perignon 1638-1715, the Benedictine monk and cellar master of the Abbey of Hautviillers whose meticulous winemaking techniques greatly improved the quality of wine in the Champagne region.

King Louis XIV, the Roi Soleil, adored the red wine and it became a court favourite at Versailles. To the extent that the wine of Father Perignon became a sought after delight among the French nobility.

The engraver Louis Joseph Masquellier 1741-1811, a prominent French draughtsman and engraver known for book illustration.

He specialised in book illustrations and was active during the French Revolutio and the Empire.

A. P. D. R. In the lower margin is an inscription used on commercial prints in France between 1686 and 1790, to indicate official royal registration.

Also marked PL. page CCVII ( volume 6, page 207).

It was most likely part of a larger publication such as a picturesque travel book.

The image measures 14.7 x 23.3

The press margin can clearly be seen around the edges of the print.
