In June 1885, Don Minor Keith signed in London, as agent and representative of the Government Costa Rican arrangements that would allow completion of the railroad to the Atlantic. 22 of April 1886, the company was created: Costa Rica Railway Company Limited, domiciled in England, which received from the Government Railroad, April 23, 1887, reactivating then the construction of the missing lines and the reconstruction of the entire Port of Limón, with Drainage, sewerage and supply works drinking water, ending the project on 6 December 1890.

During the railway completion process the company sent to mint its own coins from cupro-nickel to pay workers who they were doing their work along the railroad at Atlántico, also installing comisariatos ("Stores") where they could be used for purchase of products.

These coins were minted with values ​​of 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents. On the obverse they had the inscription “Costa Rica Railway · C.R” and in the reverse the face value.
