Here we have an extremely rare early pearlware cup decorated
with an attractive multi-color marbled glaze.
Around the rim this is decorated with incised reeded bands infilled with
green glaze. The cup has an attractive form
with a rounded side over a flat recessed foot.
Measuring 4 ½” across the rim by 3 ¼” in height this survives in near
mint condition with only 2 chips on the inside of the foot rim that don’t
detract. A related bowl is shown on
page 127 in Jonathan Rickard’s definitive book “MOCHA and related dipped
wares, 1770-1939”. The fact that this
cup survives this length of time is truly remarkable.
