Were I to fall in love, indeed, it would be a different thing; but I have never been in love; it is not my way, or my nature; and I do not think I ever shall.

Here we offer a finely-bound copy of the second edition--the first illustrated edition--of Jane Austen's classic, Emma, published by the novel's original publisher, Richard Bentley, London, in 1833. This was the first edition to feature a tissue-protected frontispiece engraving in addition to a vignette-illustrated title page. It is finely-bound for a private library, with gilt-impressed leather binding and marbled book block edges.

Boards are edgeworn (please see pics.) Endpapers are uninscribed. Foxed frontis tissue. Very tight and square binding; very clean, bright, and crisp text. 435 pages, measures approximately 6.75 x 4.5-inches.

This finely-bound iconic second edition will make a wonderful centerpiece to your collection or a thoughtful gift.
