A number of items of personal memorabilia belonging to showbiz legend, Arthur Askey were recently sold at auction and I was fortunate to be able to acquire some of these items.

I am now making these items available for sale with this example being:

A presentation sterling silver trophy cup & cover attached to a bakelite plinth presented to Arthur Askey in 1942. The trophy cup was presented to Arthur in recognition of him appearing as entertainment during the 6th Annual Prize Distribution at Buckingham College, Harrow on 25th June 1942. As the event was taking place during wartime, the collection was in aid of the Harrow Prisoners of War.

The presentation engraving on the trophy reads:

"BUCKINGHAM COLLEGE HARROW. 25 - 6 - 42. TO ARTHUR ASKEY FROM THE FATHER OF A PRISONER OF WAR"

Weight (trophy & attached plinth): 39.3 gm. Overall Height: 105 mm. Height of Silver Trophy: 80 mm. Diameter of Rim: 30 mm. Diameter of Base: 45 mm. Hall Mark: Birmingham 1937. Maker's Mark: Ernest W Haywood.

Arthur Bowden Askey (6th June 1900 - 16th November 1982): An English comedian, actor & TV personality who was one of the best known and well-liked show business personalities of his generation.

He was known for his short stature (5ft 2 in) and his distinctive horn-rimmed glasses. His catchphrases were "Hello Playmates", "Before Your Very Eyes" & "I Thank You" pronounced "Ay-Thang-Yaw".

He was made an OBE in 1969 and CBE in 1981.

Summary: Arthur Askey was one of the most famous show business personalities right up until his death in 1982 with millions of fans worldwide. This is therefore a rare opportunity to own an interesting presentation trophy personally presented to Arthur. Good luck!
