Shoushan Seal Dragons & Pearl, Latin “FF”, Republic c.1910-1920

This product data sheet is originally written in English.

Finely carved Shoushan stone seal of rectangular form, the Crest in high relief with two sinuous dragons pursuing a flaming pearl (“er long xi zhu”). The stone is an exceptional milky white with a soft inner glow, distinctly cool in hand; workmanship is markedly superior to workshop pieces, with clean undercutting (whiskers, manes, dorsal spines) and crisp negative spaces. The seal face is rare, combining Chinese script with the Latin letters “FF”, indicating a bespoke commission for a Western patron in the early Republic period c.1910

Dimensions and weight: approx. 8.5 × 7.6 × 3.2 cm; 329 g.
Material: Shoushan soapstone (Fujian), fine waxy texture.
Dating: Republic period, early 20th century.
Condition: minor age-consistent nicks to high points of the openwork; seal face intact and legible. No visible restorations.

Collecting note: uncommon combination of milky-white Shoushan, refined carving quality, and hybrid inscription (“FF”)—a desirable scholar’s object with long-term appeal.
