you can still use an older MagicBand version 2, as long as the battery is active and it's linked to your Walt Disney World account. These older bands work for basic functions like park entry, purchases, and opening your hotel room. Due to age (approx. 2018) it's a possibility it may have a depleted battery. I currently have many older MagicBand 2s that still work.
