Lot of 2 - Litton KESTER - Solder, 40/60 Acid Core. 1 Ounce 0.080" Diameter, Metal Mender.

Acid core solders are manufactured with the solder wire as a tube and the center of the tube contains the flux which must be removed after soldering to avoid potential part corrosion. Heat sources for cored solders can be air/fuel torches or soldering irons and guns. Kester Acid-Cored Wire is a highly active, inorganic acid type of flux developed for general-purpose soldering applications where a flux-cored solder wire is desirable. Rapid soldering can be accomplished on all common metals except aluminum and manganese. Acid flux is particularly useful for soldering excessively oxidized metals. Acid Core possesses excellent thermal stability to function under prolonged high temperature conditions as with torch or flame soldering. It is not recommended for electrical or electronic soldering applications due to the corrosive nature of the residue.

Metal Mender Solder. 40% Tin / 60% Lead.

Acid Core is classified as INH1 per J-STD-004.

Applications In The Sheet Metal, Stained Glass, Galvanized Gutters, And Radiator Repair Industries. The Tin-Lead Solders Are Not Recommended In High Stressor Or Vibration Joints In The Cooling Industry Due To The Lack Of Sufficient Elongation Properties.

Note: What is the difference between resin core and acid core solder?

Rosin flux residue is non-corrosive which eliminates the need for post solder cleaning. The mild nature of rosin core limits its use to copper and brass. The name acid core tells us the flux is an aggressive type designed to solder steel as well as other metals.
