Antique Swiss Thoune Ceramic Pot 10.7cm tall Owl Motif
Lovely little Antique Pot from Thun in Switzerland, probably made around 1930.
Signed to base Thounet with the Initials A.S. (Adolf Scheidegger)
Measures approx. 10.7cm high x 7cm in diameter.

The Thun manufactory (Thuner Majolica) was founded by Jean Wanzenried in Switzerland, in the Thun (Thoune) area, specifically in the towns of Heimberg and Steffisburg.
At the height of Thun majolica around 1880, vases, tableware, plates with images and coats of arms were produced, especially for tourists.
During the popular era of historicism, Thun ceramics were based on historical forms and were often decorated with oriental motifs, adapted to Swiss symbolism with edelweiss flowers, among other things.
Most Thun majolica dates from around 1870 to 1914.
This type of Swiss ceramic reached its peak after the success of the 1878 World Exhibition in Paris. This success began to wane around 1900, although some motifs, such as the “Chrutmuster” (cabbage motif) or the “Chrutdecoration” (also known as the owl motif) continued to live on as “Alt-Thun” motifs even after the end of the “Thun faience” era.
Since much of the Thun faience was sold to tourists, the collapse of tourism in Switzerland at the beginning of the First World War in 1914 marked the end of this type of ceramic.
