Magnificent matched pair of Japanese Satsuma vases by Hododa (保土田造), c. 1895–1915. Finely potted, ivory glaze with fine craquelure, decorated with overglaze enamels and lavish gold. Alternating panels: mandarin ducks and songbirds in blossom, and cranes beside water with mountain peaks. Gold textile bands scattered with mon.
Bases marked with Shimazu crest and Hododa gilt cartouche (one rubbed).
