Letter opener made from original teak removed from HMS Warrior, the Royal Navy’s pioneering ironclad warship. A small brass plaque is fitted to one side confirming its origin. The piece measures approx. 24 cm in length and shows natural variations in the timber from service use and later refurbishment.
HMS Warrior was launched in 1860 and became the world’s first iron-hulled, armour-plated warship. She represented a major technological shift in naval design and immediately rendered wooden warships obsolete. After her active career she spent many decades in auxiliary roles before being saved from dereliction and fully restored. She is now preserved at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard as one of Britain’s most significant Victorian naval survivors.
Souvenirs made from the ship’s removed teak were produced during restoration phases, and this is one of those commemorative items.
Condition is used with light marks from age but presents well.
A good display piece for naval or maritime collectors.
