Is it a FRIEND or FOE? We may never know!
I have seen a number of other replicas, but they don't come NEAR to the quality of this piece. We spent over 6 weeks dialing in the details on this replica. We went through NUMEROUS rejects until we got this perfect!
It is "FULL-SIZE" with a leg-span of about 8 inches (if they were laid out straight). It also includes a bit of "blood goo" left over due to its "relocation" from a recent host.
Each replica also includes a black plastic display base and metal name plate.
We obtained numerous high-rez screen grabs and behind-the-scenes images of the physical props to use as reference for our master pattern sculpt. We then cast the bodies in a semi-flexible resin from SMOOTH-ON.
NOTE: While it is slightly flexible, It is NOT poseable!
Those came out GREAT! The bodies were now done!
The eyes were ANOTHER story...
After numerous attempts, we finally figured out to properly replicate the brown/blue irises for the single- and multi-eye versions. Note that in the show, these constantly drift around the "head" and change position, size, spacing, and orientation, so we spaced them a little unevenly and they WILL VARY a bit from the pics.
We sculpted the organic-lightbulb-shape for the head/multi-iris and cast them in translucent white resin. We then applied three layers of very fine "capillaries"...in red, black, and pencil...to replicate the varying details seen on-screen. Some of these are extremely fine and don't even show up in pictures...but if you look VERY closely, they are there!!
The single-iris eye had us stumped for a while, but we figured out to create a master pattern from a 2-inch diameter machined plastic sphere for which our shop lathed out a recess for the iris. Real glass lenses were then glued into place OVER a iris graphic to give it depth!
Both eyes got TWO coats of crystal clear resin applied. The first was slightly tinted with white colorant and the final coat was completely clear. We then added some brown resin/pigment randomly to replicate the translucent "floating clots" seen on the creature.
We also applied some thicker resin to replicate a bit of texture and a few "mucus drips."
We eventually also realized that the creature changes size throughout the show, and in one specific scene, it is trying to enter a "host" and it can't fit inside his eye socket, so it literally shrinks down and stuffs itself into the person's skull! So there is NO set size for this. We used an average size, but went on the larger-side for dramatic effect.
Note: MANY of the surface details also vary wildly, so there is no ONE accurate reference.
eg: When it attacks Nibs, it is pretty large...actually bigger than her hand...so we used that size/shape.
The two heads/eyeballs attach MAGNETICALLY into the body and can be rotated and interchanged!
These are the last units from a limited run of 20 pieces and we don't plan to make any more due to the time and complexity.
Upon the sale of these last few we will be SOLD OUT!
NO RETURNS! SOLD AS-IS!
