Flora Of The Colosseum ~ Richard Deakin ~ 1873 2nd Edition Scarce Roman Botany

Incredibly scarce 2nd edition of this desirable and unique study of flora in and around the Colosseum in Rome. The 1st edition was published in 1855 and pagination is identical between the two editions apart from adverts in the rear of the first. Neither are commonly listed for sale. Featuring the original dark green cloth boards with gilt decoration and complete with all its delightful coloured plates. The board have some edge wear and marks, small loss at the spine, but still displays well. The endpapers have been reinforced but the binding is firm with no loose pages. The pages are in very good condition, clean and with little in the way of wear. The plates are in excellent condition, clean and bright. The front and rear free end papers have some rubbed out pencil marks. The Public Domain Review and The Atlantic both have articles referencing the book and are recommended reading.
