I have here for sale a book entitled OLD LONDON STREET CRIES and the Cries of To-day with Heaps of Quaint Cuts including Hand-coloured Frontispiece: by ANDREW W TUER published by Field & Tuer; Simpkin, Marshall & Co; Hamilton, Adams & Co., London; Scribner & Welford, New York, in 1885.  First edition.  This fascinating book gives us a valuable record of life in London in the nineteenth century, with anecdotes and historical account of the cries of London.  The book is illustrated throughout with a full-page colour frontispiece illustration, 36 full-page b/w illustrations, and numerous in-text b/w illustrations.


Bound in marbled hardboards with a ribbon tie and a title label with black lettering affixed to the front board.  Remains of title label on the spine.  Wear along the edges and to the corners of the boards.  Front board and spine have come away from the text bloc.  Light foxing to some pages.  The binding is a bit loose, but all pages are firm and the book is in very good condition.  137 pages, plus publisher's catalogue 6 pages.  13.5 x 10 cm.
