DETAIL: Henry William Hine was born at St Pancras, London on 27 February 1845, son of Henry George Hine, an illustrator on 'Punch' and 'Illustrated London News', and his wife Mary Ann Eliza née Egerton (1817-25 July 1901), who married at Kennington, London on 13 November 1840. Harry, as he was known, was educated at North London Collegiate School and was a mate in the merchant navy but by 1871, a 26-year-old general draughtsman, living at 26 Park Road, Hampstead, London with his parents, 59-year-old Henry, a landscape painter, and 54-year-old Mary, who was born at Finsbury, London and his seven siblings, including 29 year old Mary Esther (1842-1872), a figure painter, and 19 year old William Egerton (1851-1926), a clerk, who were all born at St Pancras. Harry studied at Accrington School of Art, the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art and Académie Julien in Paris. A landscape painter and elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1879 and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1883. He married at St Saviour's Church, Haverstock Hill, London on 25 June 1874, Victoria Susanna Hine née Colkett, and in 1881, they were living at Holywell Hill, St Albans, Hertfordshire. He exhibited at the Royal Academy; the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists; Dudley Gallery; Dowdeswell Gallery; Fine Art Society; Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; Walker Art Gallery; Leicester Galleries; Manchester City Art Gallery; New Gallery; two water colours at the Royal Society of British Artists, in 1875 ‘Sea Coast, Sussex’ and in 1884 ‘Between Amalfie and Salerno’; Royal Hibernian Academy, and over 150 works at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, from Botesdale, Suffolk in 1906. In 1891, now Harry, was still living in St Albans with his wife and was still there in 1901 but by 1911, as William Henry, had moved Pulborough House, Botesdale, Suffolk, a 66-year-old landscape painter with his 70-year-old wife Victoria Susanna, a painter & etcher, and a sister-in-law 75-year-old Emily Louisa Colkett, and kept a servant. As Henry William otherwise Harry Hine, he died at Pulborough House, Botesdale on 20 October 1941, aged 97

Frames: Because of the fragile nature of picture frames, all frames are offered free with the painting. You are welcome to ask questions about the frame condition before buying but we cannot accept returns or requests for 'part refunds' because a frame arrives with some existing damage not sustained in transit.

All paintings are sold without glass for safety in transit. Replacement glass costs just a few pounds, is easily fitted, and saves the strong likelihood of your artwork getting damaged in the post if glass were included. We ship within a maximum of 3 days of purchase and will use a variety of 24-48 hour parcel carriers including Parcelforce, UPS, Yodel, City Link and Hermes. Internationally we generally ship UPS on a 5 day service. We ship worldwide apart from The Russian Federation and certain other countries where we cannot get parcel company coverage. You are also welcome to collect from our address near Cirencester, Cotswolds – at no charge. Unfortunately we have to charge a small premium for UK Highlands & Islands as well as Northern Ireland, please email for a postal quote if you live in these areas of the country.
We accept returns when notified within 48 hours of receipt. If the return is due to an error on our part then we will pay up to £12 for the return postage. If the return is for other reasons, not the fault of ourselves, then we will not pay for the return postage but will refund the full purchase price (excluding postage) on receipt.
