David Pelbam (1932 - 2004) was born in 1932 and believed to be an Austrian Native that fled just before Hitlers invasion for the United States. Once settled down, Pelbam called Rhode Island his home where he began painting portraits of the same old man in a variety of disguise ranging from Rabi, Dock Hand to Sea Captain. Interestingly enough, and not widely known, all of the men in his paintings were none other than David Pelbam, the man himself ! He did his works between 1950 and 1960 only. He is most famous for painting portraits of dockworkers, ship captains, and Jewish Rabbis.
