Hand carved from richly grained rosewood, this premium mid-20th-century seated Laughing Buddha (Hotei) rests on its original fitted base. Both pieces are carved from the same block of dense hardwood, precisely aligned, and finished with a high-grade polished surface that highlights the warm reddish-brown tone and fine grain.
The figure’s serene expression and deeply carved robe folds show exceptional craftsmanship typical of 1950-1970 Southeast Asian workshops. The underside cavity was traditionally used for small offerings rather than incense. The carving retains its smooth hand-rubbed polish and faint natural rosewood scent.
