Carbon electrodes used for air-arc cutting of steel, rivet cutting, casting defect removal and seam gouging at currents up to 1000 A, as well as for copper welding. They are produced by pressing and heat treating carbon powder into round or rectangular rods.

Carbon electrode welding can be successfully used for welding non-ferrous metals and for surfacing hard alloys. Since the electrodes can withstand high temperatures, they are used for mixing low-melting metals in a crucible, as well as in laboratory research.
