City of Mirny - Prior to the construction of the Angara facility, later on the landfill, the cosmodrome, at the southern tip of the modern city, the village of Pletsy was located with a post station on Petrovsky Trakt.

    In 1919-1920, during the Civil War, the village of the Onega district was the site of fierce battles between the Reds and Whites, on the side of which the Allied forces of the Entente fought.

At the northern end of the modern city, there was the village of Rosin Plant, in which a rosin and turpentine plant operated from 1927 to 1958. The village was settled by 1960.

The new settlement arose in 1957 as a military camp for intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Subsequently, on the basis of the connection, a test site was first created, and later the Plesetsk cosmodrome.
