The badge is dedicated to a historical event - the first test launch of the super-heavy launch vehicle "Energia", which took place on May 15, 1987 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. This rocket was one of the most powerful in the world and became an important milestone in the history of Soviet cosmonautics.
"Energia" is a unique launch vehicle created for launching large-sized cargo, including the orbital ship "Buran" and scientific stations.
On May 15, 1987, the first test launch was carried out. A mock-up of the payload "Polus" was launched into orbit. Despite the successful launch, the payload failed to reach orbit due to a software glitch.
The launch was a demonstration of the capabilities of Soviet space exploration in the 1980s.
