Carbon brushes are of the most frequently replaced power tool parts. This is because carbon brushes are consumable parts that gradually wear out through friction use until they need to be replaced. Worn brushes are a common cause of intermittent motor function, weakened electric braking, reduced motor power. Worn brushes usually wear close to the wires may crack, dent, or burn. When replacing carbon brushes, be sure to inspect your for burns, cracks, or other damage that could indicate a larger motor problem.

To replace this component, you will need a screwdriver:
1 First remove the screws holding the cover together
2 Carefully separate the housing to gain for access to the brush holder
3 Disconnect the wires
4 Remove the screws securing the card swiping assembly
5 Remove the old brush holder install the new assembly
Reassemble and test your tool
