The History of
... Panerai.... is the most famous Italian watch
company. But keep in mind, Panerai is now produced in
Switzerland, not Italy. Originally founded in Florence in the
1860’s, this “watch workshop” was commissioned by the
Italian Navy to produce a watch that could be easily
read underwater. The early prototype was actually
fitted with Rolex parts.Giovanni Panerai and his
family had no idea, back in 1860, just how significant the Panerai
watch company would become a century and a half
later. Panerai started his business by producing
measurement and precision systems for the Italian
Navy, which gradually lead to an affinity for watchmaking
and other precision instruments. The company continued to
develop in parallel with the Italian Navy, and the
commandos were equipped with wristwatches produced by
Panerai. In 1930, Panerai watches were well known in
the Italian military and the company had an exclusive
contract with the Navy to produce their watches and aiming sites
for various types of weaponry. The ruggedness and
durability of the Panerai watches is still symbolic
today, and the company only started producing
wristwatches for the general public in 1993...

Cushion shaped case measuring 44mm diameter. Fixed black Carbotech
bezel. Automatic movement, power reserve up to ± 72 hours. Displays a
Anthracite sandwich dial with Arabic numerals/ indexes, dark Grey lume
filled hands. Small seconds indicator at 9 o'clock, Date indicator at
3o'clock. Black covered crown, lever; patented safety-lock
protected bridge guard. Scratch resistant Sapphire crystal from
corundum, screwed dodecagonal solid caseback in titanium with black DLC

display in this handsome timepiece. One of these is Direct Metal
Laser Sintering (or DMLS), a technology that uses a 3D printing process
to shape the titanium for the case, which in its final stage is
incredibly lightweight on the wrist and boasts an appealingly sleek
matte finish. A high-powered optic laser accomplishes the sintering of
the titanium powder, creating a solid shape that grows 30 microns at a
time and has a hollow cavity within it. The other ultramodern material
applied to the model is Carbotech, which is used for the dark gray,
tapering bezel. The material results from compressing thin sheets of
carbon fibers at a controlled temperature under high pressure together
with a high-end polymer called PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone) which
binds the composite material, making it even stronger and more
