1907 US District Court Indian Territory Purchase Receipt for LC Smith Typewriter No. 1
This is an original authentic Government expense receipt from the United States Court, Western District Indian Territory issued to L.C. Smith & Bros in Kansas City, Missouri for a No. 1, Serial Number 2301 typewriter.
The cost was 78.98 for the No. 1 typewriter, an exorbitant amount equal to $2700 in today's money, about a months salary of an office worker in 1907.
The District Court Clerk is printed as R.P. Harrison who was District Clerk from 1905-1907.
Hand written in ink, Kansas City Mo. and dated Jan 10, 1907
The amount and L.C. Smith & Bros and typewriter No. 1 -2301 is handwritten in ink on the receipt line. L.C. Smith & Bros Typewriter Co. is printed in blue on the bottom right corner of the receipt and signed by the Chashier, JC Swerney.
The receipt is 2-1/2" x 7-1/2"
There is a small punched hole in the upper left corner of the receipt and a couple of small staple holes (4 tiny stapler holes)
Clean, no stains, tears or creases. Nothing written on back.
A super rare piece of ephemera for any history buff or typewriter enthusiast.
This receipt was likely retained by L.C.Smith & Bros with the payee and amount filled out by the court.
Oklahoma achieved statehood on Nov. 16, 1907 and the District Court for Indian Territory was dissolved.
The LC Smith No. 1 Typewriter in 1903 as the company's 1st typewriter and continued production into 1909. This receipt for typewriter #2301 fits the time frame for this production.
