(29) This listing is for a Characterful Antique  (c 1869) Traditional French ''Gaudard'' brand, Vintners Brass 'Lampe Pigeon' Pigeon Lamp, It is 24.7cm high including it's chimney, and it has a 7.9cm diameter body. It is marked: 'Lampe Feutree' 'Garantie Veritable' 'Inexplosible a L'essence Minerale' 'Securite Absolue' 'Marque Deposee' 'Qualite Superiere', made in France, and it has a shield shape makers mark of a Lion Rampant. It has a flat profile side handle, which has an eye, enabling it to be either hand held or wall mounted. It has a cotton wad interior, making it spill proof, an adjustable wick with a brass winding knob, a crimped brass chimney holder, and a pot belly shaped glass chimney.

The Pigeon lamp, was invented by Charles Pigeon, it is a type of portable oil lamp known for its safety and non-explosive design, Charles Pigeon (1838 -1915) a French inventor created the lamp, and patented it in 1884. The lamp gained popularity and recognition, especially after being showcased at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris. 

This lovely lamp which is in brilliant condition, in WORKING ORDER with plenty of wick would make an interesting item of home décor, being particularly well suited to someone with an interest in Viticulture / Wine Making.
