This is a stunning facsimile edition of L'Apocalypse Figurée by Jean Duvet, published by Eugrammia Press in London in 1962. A nicely produced facsimile containing the twenty-three remarkable engravings by Jean Duvet and the twenty-two chapters of the Book of Revelations printed by Jean de Tournes in 1561.
Jean Duvet was a French Renaissance goldsmith and engraver, now best known for his engravings. He was the first significant French printmaker.
The 94 pages (top edge in gilt) with French text is in a very good condition, bright and clean with no inscriptions or highlighting and is tightly bound.
It was reproduced by collotype in Holland and was printed on Atlas mould-made paper especially for this edition. The hardcover is in quarter red Morocco leather with decorated boards and gilt tops by Zaehnsdorf Ltd with plain end papers. There is some damage to the top of the rear spine (see pic 24) but otherwise it is in very good condition.
Included is a 29-page supplement booklet Apocalypse de Jean, a French translation by Louis Segond and also included is the original prospectus (a four-page announcement of the publication advertisement which is one folio sheet folded to make four pages), reproducing one image and one page of text laid in.
